Businessman shot dead

NEW DELHI FEB. 16. A 45-year-old businessman was shot dead by four persons who allegedly tried to extort Rs. 20,000 from him at Hauz Qazi in Central Delhi on Saturday.

The incident took place around 11-30 p.m. when four persons came to meet Mustaqeen Ahmed, who had a business of computers and electronic goods. The four allegedly demanded Rs. 20,000 and on refusal, shot at him and fled from the scene.

Mustaqeen, who sustained a bullet injury in the neck, was taken to Jai Prakash Narain Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Man shot at

A 35-year-old businessman was shot at by a miscreant at Kalkaji in South Delhi on Saturday.

The incident took place late at night when Mahesh was on his way back home from Sangam Vihar. He was nearing Okhla roundabout when his scooter ran out of petrol. He tried to drag the scooter to a petrol pump when a person appeared from behind and intercepted him.

The culprit whipped out a country-made firearm and asked Mahesh to hand over his belongings. Mahesh resisted and raised alarm. Some passers by heard his scream and rushed for his help when the culrpit opened fire and fled from the scene.

Mahesh sustained pellet injuries in the hand and stomach. He was taken to a hospital where he was said to be out of danger. Meanwhile, the police have registered an attempt-to-murder case and are investigating.

SHO sent to lines

The Station House Officer of Khazuri Khas police station in North-East Delhi has been sent to lines for his alleged failure in containing the tension between two communities a few days ago.

It is learnt that a portion of the Ram Lila Ground's boundary wall caved in recently, which sparked off tension between two communities. The situation had nearly gone out of control when senior police officers intervened and restored normalcy.

The area SHO was reportedly found incompetent in managing the crisis, following which he was sent to lines.
