Film industry crisis solved

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM March 7. The 41-day crisis that gripped the film industry following the agitation of distributors was settled at the talks held here today at the initiative of the KSFDC and the Government.

As per the settlement reached between the exhibitors, distributors and producers new films will be released soon. The distributor's share has been fixed at the meeting at the following rates: Hereafter the exhibitors will pay 60 per cent share in AC theatres in the first week and 55 and 50 per cent in the second and third week. In non-AC theatres it is 65, 60, 55 and 50 respectively. Status quo will be maintained in the case of other language films.

An amicable decision has been taken in the case of the hold over period too. The KSFDC Chairman, P.V. Gangadharan, said dispute still existed on the share in Thrissur and Kozhikode districts. This would be settled within three months. But it would not affect the release of new films.

The publicity contribution of exhibitors for Malayalam films is fixed at 4 per cent and 2 per cent for other language films. The representative's bata is Rs.110. Hereafter if a distributor fails to give a film to the exhibitor for a festival he will have to inform the exhibitors 21 days in advance failing which the exhibitor can cut 5 per cent from the share due to the distributor.

The Cultural Affairs Minister, G. Karthikeyan, the Information Minister, M.M. Hassan, the Exhibitors' Federation leader, S. Chandran, the Producers' Association leaders, G. Suresh Kumar and Appachan, were among those who attended the talk.
