Stay sought on excavation

By J. Venkatesan

NEW DELHI MARCH 13. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking stay of the March 5 direction of the Allahabad High Court ordering excavation to find out whether a temple or a mosque existed at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

The petition filed by one Naved Yarkhan has sought stay of the HC order contending that the directive violated the 1994 Supreme Court order for maintenance of "status quo" at the disputed site till the adjudication of the title suits claiming ownership of the 2.77 acres of the disputed site.
