IUML denies move to distribute 'panchshools'
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM
MARCH 14.
The All-India general secretary of the Indian Union Muslim League, E. Ahmed, said here today that his party had not taken any decision to distribute "panchshool" among Muslim youth.
Mr. Ahmed, now in Kozhikode, told The Hindu that the views expressed by the party's Mumbai unit president, Abdul Hamid Shail, could be his own. Even if such a decision had been taken by the Mumbai unit, it was not applicable to the other units, he said.
"As far as the IUML was concerned, it had not even thought of such a modus operandi. We are law-abiding citizens and believe in resorting to only constitutional means to redress our grievances.
``The IUML leadership is mature enough and will not approve of such methods," Mr Ahmed said.
Mr. Shail had said in Mumbai that the Muslim League would distribute millions of "panchshools'' throughout the country to enable the Muslim youth to defend themselves, the country and religion.
