`Plan panel assessing impact of war'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI MARCH 22. The developments in Iraq are being closely monitored by the Planning Commission which is assessing the impact on oil imports, exports and foreign remittances, according to the Deputy Chairman of the Commission, K.C. Pant.

Talking to presspersons after his meeting with the new Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Veerbhadra Singh, here today the Deputy Chairman said it was too early to say anything about the overall impact on the economy since there were several dimensions to the developments. However, suitable measures would be taken up at the appropriate time, he added.

About his discussions with the Chief Minister, Mr. Pant said matters relating to fiscal reforms, industrialisation and other financial issues were discussed. The development potential of Himachal Pradesh and the problems therein also figured in the discussions though detailed examination of the issues would be taken up later during the Annual Plan meetings, he said.
