This Day That Age
The Board of Enquiry into the crash of the Comet jet airliner killing 11 persons in Karachi on March 3rd, concluded that the pilot had lifted the nose of the plane too high too soon on the take-off run resulting in an partially stalled condition and excessive drag. Realising his mistake he had tried to correct, but his attempt was too late to prevent the plane from smashing into a culvert and becoming a total wreck. The Board noted that the pilot, with only limited experience in flying Comets, had elected to take off at night carrying the maximum permissible take-off weight.
