CBI arrests income tax officer

NEW DELHI APRIL 3. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said that it had arrested an Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Delhi, while ``accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 lakhs from a private engineering firm'' for clearing its assessment case for 2001-02.

The agency claimed that the Additional Commissioner, H.A. Siddiqui, was caught while ``accepting the bribe'' at Connaught Place.

The CBI said that a case had been registered against the official and searches conducted at his residence.

Cash, jewellery and some documents showing investments had been recovered.

He was produced at the court and remanded to police custody till April 7.
