Digging work stepped up

AYODHYA APRIL 12. A polished terracota piece belonging to the Kushan period, a decorated piece of sandstone and a conch shell shaped figurine were among articles found today as excavation work in the acquired land here was stepped up.

The digging of two new trenches C-1 and H-2 was started today. About one dozen articles were found in four trenches.

They included a black bead with a small hole, a decorated piece of sandstone, a conical object of sandstone and green tiles, sources said.

While the broken, polished terracota piece round in shape, believed to be of Kushan period, was found in trench no J-7, a conch shell shaped figurine and a terrocota piece was found in J-6 trench.
