Remand extended in jailor murder case

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI APRIL 19 . The judicial custody for four extremists involved in the September 1997 murder of S. Jayaprakash, assistant jailor in the Madurai central prison, was extended till May 2.

Earlier, sleuths of the CB-CID brought them amid tight security to the Madurai district court in anticipation of a judgment. However, the designated first fast track court judge, V. Venkataswamy, was on leave. Then I. Abu Dahir, Aslam alias `Tada' Aslam, S. Ashique and S.A. Jabru were produced before the third FTC judge, S. Udayan, who extended their remand. They were then taken back to Coimbatore.

The judgment was actually posted for April 11 (Friday) but the Coimbatore city police could not bring the accused here for security reasons. The judge then fixed the verdict for today.
