IT made a compulsory subject

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM May 3. Information Technology has been prescribed as a compulsory subject in classes eight and nine in all the schools in the State from the next academic year.

IT will have the same status as any other main subject of the high school section and the marks/grades of its evaluation shall be considered for the class promotion of students.

Every school, therefore, will be required to conduct terminal and annual examinations for the subject, starting next academic year.

The marks to be allotted for the examination in IT shall be 50, with 20 set apart for theory and 30 marks for the practical part.

The responsibility for conducting the classes on IT shall be vested with the class teacher in charge of the division.

The practicals are to be conducted seeking the technical assistance of instructors, if required. There will be four periods a week, for the subject, two each for theory and practical.

The SCERT and the `IT@School' project will be associated with the conduct of the classes in Information Technology, as per an official release issued here today.
