A fatal intervention

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI MAY 3. An impulsive intervention in a fight between a scooterist and a young man in a car cost a 36-year-old woman her life after the man chased her and shot her dead at Prashant Vihar in north-west Delhi on Friday night.

The gruesome incident came to light when police were informed about a woman lying in a pool of blood in a car at Sector-18 in Rohini around 10-30 p.m.

The woman, identified as Sunita Chaddha, a resident of Sector-8, had sustained a bullet injury on her chest.

She was taken to Ambedkar Hospital where she was declared dead. Another bullet had pierced through the left door of the car.

Investigations revealed that Sunita was on her way to fetch her daughters, who were with their grandmother, Kamla, a resident of Sector-18, Rohini. Even as Sunita was on her way, a scooterist and the driver of a car were fighting on the road near a gutter at Sector-18. Some persons had also gathered on the road.

According to the police, Sunita intervened impulsively. Four men, who were in the car, turned their ire at Sunita after she began admonishing them.

After some time, however, Sunita decided to leave the spot. However, barely had she gone a couple of hundred metres when the car intercepted her vehicle. One of the occupants fired two shots at Sunita. One bullet pierced through her chest.
