KOZHIKODE MAY 3. The IUML leader and Industries Minister, P. K. Kunhalikutty, has said that an impartial probe is needed to throw light on the circumstances that culminated in the brutal murder of nine persons in Marad. Addressing a press conference at Malappuram today, Mr. Kunhalikutty pointed out that the police failed to anticipate the outbreak of violence in Marad even though the gruesome incidents which happened there appeared to be a well-planned operation executed in a style usually associated by militants. "I agree it is a sad fact that violence could not be prevented in Marad. There should be an impartial inquiry to find out how it happened. I am unable to understand its motives and objectives. But some planning has certainly gone into it,'' Mr. Kunhalikutty said. The Minister said it was possible that some forces which were out to whip up communal passions were behind the Marad violence. He said details regarding the incident would be disclosed by the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, in Kozhikode tomorrow. He had a brief discussion with the Chief Minister about the Marad incident today.
