Sangh Parivar planning violence: NDF

By Our Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE MAY 3. The National Development Front (NDF) has warned that the massacre at Marad is likely to prompt the Sangh Parivar to unleash large-scale violence in the State.

The NDF chairman, A. Syed, in a statement here today, said that an indication of the Sangh Parivar's plan to do so was latent in the statement by the BJP secretary P.P. Mukundan, that the response of the political parties to a tragedy like the one witnessed on the Marad beach would be known when a similar tragedy happened to minority communities.

The NDF leader said Mr. Mukundan's statement was nothing but an open call to RSS men to take up arms. He said the Sangh Parivar was likely to use Mr. Mukundan's statement to let loose terror in the State.

He said the violence in Marad was the consequence of the failure to find practical solutions to the long-standing issues prevailing in the coastal areas.

Mr. Syed said sincere efforts, not superfluous programmes and empty rhetoric, were needed to build trust and friendship among groups that had got estranged over the years for various reasons. This could be achieved only by bringing to book the actual trouble-makers. The Government had failed to do so, he alleged. He also accused the State Government of ducking its responsibility to prevent the RSS from arming its supporters living in coastal areas. The Government's attempt to justify the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's `trishul programme' was also highly objectionable, the NDF chairman said.
