TDP alleges smear campaign by Cong.

By Our Staff Reporter

SRIKAKULAM May 3. The Home Minister, T Devender Goud, today assailed the Congress' thirst for power and the promises it is making to achieve its ends.

Addressing a TDP constituency-level meeting at Narsannapeta near here, he said the Congress was indulging in a misleading campaign, promising free power, low interest rates and waiver of loans, without any policy, ideology and proper thinking and people were not ready to believe it. While the TDP identified itself with people and was working among them, the Congress talked about problems only during elections. The Congress track record in development was not worth comparing with the TDP's achievements.

He ridiculed the promise of the CLP leader, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, that pending irrigation projects would be completed in three years.

Mr Devender Goud, who was the party observer for the Narsannapeta Assembly constituency, represented by the lone Congress MLA in the district, Dharmana Prasada Rao, said the TDP would win the Narsannapeta seat now with good majority. With the reported announcement that Mr Prasada Rao would contest from Srikakulam and his brother, Krishnadas, from Narsannapeta, a demand was made that the TDP also announce its candidate.

The Minister for Excise, T Sitaram, said the Chief Minister had toured the State 1,300 times. If padayatras could get votes, everyone could embark on one, he said. The Minister for Housing, P Ramasubba Reddy, spoke.
