Hizb hails PM's proposal

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD May 3. Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, one of the main militant outfits operating in the Valley, has hailed the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's proposals made on Thursday as encouraging and said the offer was a ray of hope.

``We hope that Mr. Vajpayee would not repeat what the Indian Government had done in the past. We hope that his statement would not be a diplomatic exercise'', a spokesman of the outfit said.

Hizb is very upset over the recent decision of the U. S. to put it on the watch list of terrorist organisations. Pakistan faces a dilemma in dealing with the outfit that operates from Muzaffarabad, capital of PoK.

The Pakistan Interior Minister, Faisal Saleh Hayat, had said that the U.S. had not shared information on the basis of which it had placed Hizb and four other outfits on the watch list. The Minister had said that it was not necessary for Pakistan to follow the U.S. example.

The Hizb spokesman said "Kashmir is a flash point and could disturb not only regional peace but also affect the world peace. The two countries are spending a lot on defence, if the Kashmir issue is settled the money would be diverted for the welfare of the people.

``We hope that India would give up its stubbornness. It should not try to settle scores but hold sincere talks with Pakistan and the Kashmiri leadership. Otherwise any spark could lead to nuclear war. India must read the writing on the wall and should not waste more time''.
