Vajpayee arrives to a warm welcome

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE May 3. Cool weather that followed late evening showers greeted the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, on his arrival at the airport here around 10.45 p.m. on Saturday. However, all that the Prime Minister had was a smile when a pressperson urged him to render a poem to add to the pleasant weather of the City. The Prime Minister alighted from the special Indian Air Force aircraft with the help of a special vehicle-mounted lift of the Indian Airlines. Mr. Vajpayee's flight was to land at 10.10 p.m. The warmer weather of the City registered a considerable drop in temperature following showers around 9.30 p.m. Many of the police officers making security arrangements got drenched in the rain.

He was driven towards the partymen who offered him bouquets. Subsequently, he faced a couple of questions from the waiting presspersons.

As he started walking towards a waiting car, a journalist suggested him that the he render a poem as the weather was so beautiful.

Mr. Vajpayee smiled and walked away without saying anything. However, he heeded to the requests by the press photographers to pose with the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, for them. He was welcomed by a host of dignitaries, including the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, Mr. Krishna, the Mayor, C.M. Nagaraj, and the top BJP leaders of the State. The Prime Minister is slated to garland the statue of Basaveshwara at 10 a.m. on Sunday and subsequently take part in the christening of the Light Combat Aircraft at NAL before emplaning for Chennai in the afternoon.
