Nation looks up to armed forces as role models: Governor

HYDERABAD May 3. The Governor, S.S. Barnala, today stressed that the nation looked up to the armed forces as a role model for value-based and enlightened leadership.

Delivering the valedictory address at the 33rd Long Defence Management Course at the College of Defence Management here, he emphasised that being a constituent of the nation's power the services need to regenerate perspectives on national security. The role of the armed forces, the Governor said, called for a high state of preparedness of the services at all times.

Mr. Barnala called upon the 90 selected participants to utilise the knowledge gained from the course for increasing the effectiveness of their organisations. The participants are of the rank of Colonel/Captain/Group Captain. They include one officer each from the Coast Guard, the BSF, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The Governor gave away degree certificates of the Master of Management Studies (MMS) awarded by the Osmania University and prizes to the participants. He also gave away certificates of advance course in management awarded by the All-India Management Association.

Rajvir Singh received the trophy for best dissertation, best case study and for standing first in the MMS examination. V.K. Pillai was awarded the Chief of the Army Staff Trophy.

Osmania University Vice-Chancellor, J. Anantaswamy, said there was a meaningful interface between the varsity and the college.

H.P.S. Sidhu, Commandant of the College, presented a report on the activities as well as the course, which commenced on July 29 last year.

The venue of army recruitment rally scheduled to be held from Monday at Thapar Stadium, AOC Centre, has been changed to ABC driving track ground at AOC Centre to Safilguda Road, Secunderabad.

The Branch Recruiting Officer V. Sharma, in a release said that the venue has been changed to accommodate the eligible candidates of 11 districts. The recruitment is for the categories of soldier- general duty, soldier-technical, soldier clerk and soldier nursing assistant.

Mr. Sharma said that those who passed SSC exam recently could also participate in the rally provided they produced the attested copy of the marks sheet and a declaration that they would submit the SSC pass certificate within 30 days. All the candidates should bring their original documents along with photocopies and latest passport size photographs.

The candidates would have to report at the venue at 6 a.m. on Monday, he said.

R&D Raising Day

On successful completion of 25 years of service to more than 30 DRDO laboratories in South India, the Chief Engineer R & D celebrated recently the Silver Jubilee Raising Day.

The annual Garrison Engineers' conference was organised to mark the occasion. Nine outstation engineers were present.

Tej Paul, Chief Controller, DRDO Headquarters, delivered the valedictory address. Sports events, cultural programmes, `barakhana' were organised. Awards and merit certificates were given to the staff.<137>
