Three PDP leaders among 8 killed in J&K

Srinagar May 10. Militants killed eight people, including three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and a couple, in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, barely few hours after the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, appealed for a ceasefire.

One of the PDP leaders was a relative of the Chief Minister. Security forces killed two militants in the State, an official spokesman said here today.

Unidentified militants fired upon Mr. Sayeed's relative, Gul Mohammad Mir, at Bijbehara on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway last night when he was returning home. Mr. Mir and two others were wounded in the firing, sources said, adding that he died on way to hospital. The militants shot dead two more PDP leaders— Abdul Gani Sheikh and Ghulam Mohammad Bhat — at Veri Noubug village in the same area.
