British diplomat to lay stone for agricultural centre

Rajahmundry May 14. As part of the bicentenary celebrations of Sir Arthur Cotton on May 15, the Acting British Deputy High Commissioner, South India, David Abbaot, will lay foundation stone for the Sir Arthur Cotton Agricultural Service Centre in Dowleswaram on Thursday by 10.30 am.

Giving details of the function, Bolla Venkata Satyanarayana Murthy, president of bicentenary committee and Akkineni Bhavani Prasad, general secretary, said that after the foundation laying function there would be meetings in the Subrahmanya maidanam in Rajahmundry.

The Agricultural Service Centre, in memory of the Sir Arthur Cotton, would be completed in a phased manner. Initially Rs.1.20 crores was proposed to be mobilised.

The District Collector, K.S. Jawahar Reddy, the SP, Govinda Singh, and other officials inspected the arrangements for the bicentenary celebrations at Subrahmanya maidanam on Tuesday evening.

The Ministers, Yenamala Ramakrishnudu (Finance), Kadiam Srihari (Major Irrigation) besides MPs and MLAs are scheduled to participate.
