By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI MAY 17. A UNESCO expert team may soon visit Gangaikondacholapuram to scrutinise India's application presented for declaring the historic place a world heritage site, K. T. Narasimhan, superintending archaeologist of the Archaeological Survey of India, told presspersons here today.

Recently he had held discussions with senior officials of the United Nations body in New Delhi. ``After our presentation, they were amazed at the greatness of Gangaikondacholapuram''. N. Gopalaswami, who was Union Culture Secretary before becoming Home Secretary, had advised the ASI that the application be presented to the UNESCO before March-end. ``We submitted it in February''.
