According to the Ambika Matriculation Higher Secondary School authorities, Balaprasanna has stood first in chemistry, scoring 193 out of 200 and second in Mathematics with 170 out of 200. Interestingly, the police had accused him of murdering the college student, T. Mayoorini, to steal her valuables and make money for enhancing his marks, as he had not performed well in the Mathematics examination. Ghazi Ali has stood first in Mathematics and Physics, scoring 183 and 193. Mayoorini (19), daughter of a top government official in Sri Lanka, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the first floor of a jeweller's house in the posh Anna Nagar here on April 24. The city police, besides apprehending Balaprasanna and Ghazi Ali, arrested the jeweller, Solamalai Thevar, his wife, Rakkammal, and their servant, Veerannan. It was alleged that Solamalai Thevar "lured" Balaprasanna into killing Mayoorini, promising him a seat in a professional college. The police recovered a knife and bloodstained clothes, reportedly used by the accused, and a computer, some jewels and money belonging to the deceased, from Ghazi Ali's house.
