Top marks, still no rank

CHENNAI May 17 . Three Chennai students have secured marks equal to or more than that of the State's official topper in the Higher Secondary examination but were not considered for ranks as they took languages other than Tamil as a subject. M.K. Parasuram, who studied in the D.A.V. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mogappair, has secured 1,181 out of 1,200. The official State topper, N.S. Ramasubramanian of Palayamkottai got 1,181. Parasuram, son of an accounts officer in a Chennai shipping firm, has a score of 96.23 in the medical entrance examination and hopes to enter a medical college. His next choice is the BITS, Pilani. He took Sanskrit as language in school. His schoolmates R. Rajaram and Shakthi Kumar, who also took Sanskrit, secured 1,181. In their institution, five other boys have secured 1,180.
