Touted as an alternative to the Congress and the BJP, the front announced its decision to contest all the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly in the elections due later this year. At a joint press conference, the party leaders said this was an attempt to provide a non-Congress and non-BJP alternative to the people of the Capital who have been looking for a feasible substitute for these two parties. The Third Front would provide representation to the weaker sections, marginalised groups and neglected communities and give them their rightful share in political and administrative power. Present on the occasion were the LJP vice-president, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the Janata Dal (S) leaders, Romesh Bhandari and Shoaib Iqbal, the NCP Delhi unit chief, Sukhbir Singh Panwar, the SJP general secretary, H.N. Sharma and the National Akali Dal president, Paramjit Singh Pamma. A formal announcement of the convener of the Front and office-bearers would be made within a few days.
