Political colour given to murder, says Cong.

By Our Staff Correspondent

NEW DELHI JUNE 5. The Congress today said that the law would take its own course and that those responsible for the killing the Chhattisgarh-unit treasurer of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Ram Avtar Jaggi, in Raipur last night would be caught soon.

Reacting to the killing, and the subsequent naming of the State Chief Minister, Ajit Jogi, and his son, in the FIR, the Congress spokesperson, Anand Sharma, said the party had full faith in the law and all Congress Governments were committed to follow law.

"Just because a person is named in the FIR it does not mean that he is guilty. There is no place for murder in politics and a political colour is being given to Mr. Jaggi's murder,'' he said, adding that it could have happened because the atmosphere was politically hot, as elections in the State were round the corner.

The NCP had, earlier in the day, sought a CBI inquiry into the killing. The FIR, lodged by the son of the deceased said Mr. Jogi, and his son of having "hatched a conspiracy'' for the murder.

Addressing a press conference here today, the NCP general secretary, Tariq Anwar, said that they had written a letter to the Union Home Minister seeking his intervention in ordering a CBI inquiry into the killing.

While in New Delhi, the NCP will hold a dharna to protest against the killing, the party has called for a bandh in Chhattisgarh tomorrow. Mr. Jaggi, an industrialist, feared hurdles in his business following alleged threats but would have never thought things would go so far, Mr. Anwar said on being asked whether Mr. Jaggi had lodged a complaint with police following the threats.
