By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI JUNE 9. Ceat is planning to set up a radial tyre unit for trucks. The total outlay for the project is estimated at Rs. 200-250 crores. The unit will produce 50,000 to 60,000 tyres annually. At present, the company is test marketing the truck radial tyres in the Indian market by importing them from China. The first consignment, which commenced two months back, amounted to a limited number of 300 to 350 tyres. However, the company will set up the plant in the next two to three years.

In an informal chat with the presspersons, the Vice President (Sales and Marketing), Ceat, Kalyan K. Paul, said the location for the new radial tyre unit for truck had not been finalised.

The company was planning to expand the existing capacity of radial tyres for passenger vehicles to one lakh from 35,000 units. It would invest Rs. 75-80 crores.

The company had achieved a turnover of Rs. 1,498 crores last year. The company was targeting a turnover of Rs. 1,800 crores during the current year. The majority of growth during the current year was expected from non-truck segment.
