Sir, I see advertisements in newspapers claiming cure for epilepsy. I have been treating epilepsy surgically and medically for the past 53 years and have treated about two lakhs of people. We are able to help about 80 per cent of the patients. The rest are intractable and may be partly helped by surgery. This is the experience the world over, even today with any system of medicine, including ayurveda, unani, homeopathy, siddha, reiki and acupuncture. Hence, to claim that one can cure epilepsy is strange. If this is true, the doctor will get the Nobel Prize and mankind will be benefited. If it is false, then gullible people are being exploited and such advertisements mislead hopeful millions. Is there no way the Government can investigate this and throw light on the matter? B. Ramamurthi, Chennai
