CPI(M) opposes docking of U.S. ships at Kochi

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JUNE 21. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today condemned the permission given to two the United States ships engaged in the Iraq war to dock for "rest'' at Kochi and charged that it had "insulted the sensibilities of the Indian people.''

The party said the two ships carrying more than 400 soldiers and officers have been permitted by the Government to dock for four days.

These ships are also carrying deadly guided missiles and other military equipment that were meant for use in the war of aggression against Iraq.

"By providing such facilities to the U.S. occupation army, the Vajpayee Government has insulted the sensibilities of the Indian people.

``Bowing to the U.S. pressure, the Government has acted against the spirit of the resolution adopted in Parliament against the Iraq war.

``This approval comes amidst the increasing pressure to send Indian troops to help the occupation regime in Iraq,'' the CPI(M) general secretary, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, said in a statement.
