In a press release here today, P. Chidambaran, ASSUT general secretary, alleged that the current campaigns against the university were politically motivated. The association demanded that the negative campaign against the university be put to an end and called for cooperation from all quarters for the smooth functioning of the university. Dr. Chidambaram pointed out that the academic renovations by the university during the last five years should be a model for all the other universities in the State. Annual reports of the university during the last two years were ample proof of the number of academic activities the university had initiated, he said. The association also pointed out that the controversies that had been surrounding the university from its very onset had only helped in detracting from its professed objectives and requested the UGC to grant recognition to the university at the earliest.
