The game is a dress rehearsal for Saturday's final when the two sides meet at Lord's. After skipper Graeme Smith won the toss and decided to bat first, South Africa made a dream start with the captain smashing 19 runs off James Anderson in the first over of the match. However, the other opener Herschelle Gibbs failed to get going and was dismissed for two, Gough claiming his wicket. Smith continued in the same vein and made 45 off 39 balls with nine boundaries before falling to Flintoff. When Jacques Kallis (15) and Andrew Hall (3) too perished quickly, the visitor was 74 for four. Anderson, returning for his second spell, sent back Jacques Rudolph (16), Mark Boucher (13) and Pollock for a duck to leave South Africa precariously placed at 104 for seven. Van Jaarsveld (23) and Paul Adams (9) were at the crease. For England, Anderson bagged three wickets and Richard Johnson two. Earlier, South Africa recalled fast bowler Andre Nel after his six-match ban for drunken driving. He replaced mediumpacer Charl Langeveldt. England brought back left-arm spinner Ashley Giles — who sat out the six-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Bristol — to replace fast bowler Steve Harmison.
