Ganguly turns 30

KOLKATA JULY 8. Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday celebrated his 30th birthday quietly with his family and friends at his residence as best wishes poured in from all over the country.

Among those who wished him were the BCCI president, Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya, and coach John Wright, teammates from both the National team and the State side. Commenting on the celebrations, the Indian skipper said tongue in cheek, "this has become a fashion these days to celebrate a cricketer's birthday.''

Speaking to the media, Ganguly said he was enjoying the captaincy despite finding the going very tough. He hoped to lead the side in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies. Ganguly felt most of the key players of the current side should be around to play in the next World Cup.

Expressing his happiness for the way the team played last season, Ganguly said, "the team needs to maintain the consistency now.'' He pointed out that his first priority was to win a Test series outside India, and thought that India had the firepower to achieve this. — Our Special Correspondent
