Inaugurating a health camp for policemen in Mahabodhi Mallige Hospital, Mr. Mariswamy said such programmes were being conducted for the past two months. Help had been requested from 300 hospitals and clinics. The aim was to understand the problems faced by policemen and help them, he said. Some policemen, stressed out by the demands of work, took to drinking, and had unhealthy food and sleeping habits. The problems often exacerbated to domestic strife and financial burden. The programme aimed at dealing with these issues comprehensively. Mr. Mariswamy said the police force was also being put through English learning courses and personality development programmes. Efforts to modernise the 88 police stations in the City had received financial and moral support from the citizens, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists. The police force would repay this kindness by working harder, he said. As many as 500 personnel will be treated at the ongoing camp which will continue for eight days.
