The results of all streams, which ended in July first week, were released today by the Director of Government Examinations C. Palanivelu. Of the 1,00,768 candidates who appeared for the SSLC, 34,799 passed (34.53 per cent) the examination. This included 61,931 in one subject (29,696 passed - 47.95 per cent); 27,591 in two subjects (4,491 passed - 16.28 per cent) and 11,246 in three subjects (612 passed - 5.44 per cent). Subject toppers got more than 80-90 per cent, which showed that the failure in their earlier attempt (March/April 2003) could have been accidental. Given another chance, they proved their mettle, he added. In the Matriculation stream, of the 7,432 who appeared for the re-examination, 3,465 passed (46.62 per cent). This included 4,779 in one subject, 1,844 in two subjects and 809 in three subjects. The number of successful candidates was 2,921; 489; and 55 respectively. In the Anglo-Indian stream, of the 187 candidates, 134 came out successful, Dr. Palanivelu said. A comprehensive mark list was sent to schools/centres. The students could note down the marks and seek admission in the higher class immediately, he said. "The instant re-examination will help about 38,000 candidates to move to the higher class without losing one full academic year," the Director said. Compared to last year, the pass percentage for SSLC (in respect of re-examination) came down from 40.9 per cent to 34.53. Last year students who failed in only one or two subjects were allowed to take the re-examination, while this year even those who failed in three subjects were able take the special supplementary examination.
Applications for re-totalling
Mark certificates would be distributed to candidates at the respective examination centres from July 25 to 27. Candidates could apply for re-totalling from July 23 to 25. Applications would be available with CEO/DEO offices, and regional joint directorates of government examination in Tirunelveli, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Cuddalore, Vellore and Chennai. The fee was Rs.205 for one subject and Rs.305 for subjects with two papers, payable as demand draft, drawn on any nationalised bank in favour of the Deputy Director of Government Examinations, Chennai 600 006. The matriculation and Anglo-Indian School candidates should pay by DD in the name of the Additional Secretary of Government Examinations. The application along with the demand draft should be dropped in boxes provided at the CEO/DEO and the regional joint directorate offices, he added.
