While one section holds that the duo might have died in a hit-and-run, another group suspects foul play. The police have booked a case under Section 174 of the Cr.PC (death under suspicious circumstances). The people of the Senkurichi colony blocked traffic on the arterial road for about four hours, voicing a suspicion that the two were done to death out of previous enmity, and urging the police to book a case under Section 302 of Cr.PC (murder). As the police said they could not do so without verifying evidence, protesters stayed put. The Superintendent of Police, Nallasivam, however, pacified the people. Subsequently, the Thirukkovilur Revenue Divisional Officer, Mary Senthamil Selvi, was entrusted conducting an enquiry. After post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the relatives. Then the road was cleared for traffic.
