Not feasible

Sir, — The proposed reservation for the economically backward among the forward castes is difficult to implement. The criterion is not stable and is subject to change. Even if a criterion is arrived on, on what parameters will the monitoring system function? Suppose a member of a family gets a decent employment after getting enrolled in the list, how can the reservation be revoked?

Joseph P. Sahayam,
Salem, T.N.

Sir, — It is high time we discarded the reservation system. As a member of the erstwhile Cochin royal family, I have always held that all people are equal. Reservation for the economically backward is not a solution. The Government will have a tough time identifying the eligible candidates.

Vijay Kerala Varma,
Ernakulam, Kerala
