Sir, In the debate following the CSE findings of pesticide residue in Pepsi and Coke, both the public and the media are missing the wood for the trees. The Indian farming community has increased its pesticide consumption in the last four decades by nearly tenfold. Contaminated ground water is used for making soft drinks. As for quality control, there are no standards for pesticide limits in soft drinks in India.

Sir, I fully endorse the media and the public for taking up the Cola issue. It is of course a fact that we lack even safe drinking water facility. But the presence of one evil should not be a reason to justify another.
