According to Health department officials, the proposed foundation will appeal for funds from philanthropists, voluntary organisations, individuals, corporate houses and others to strengthen the financial and infrastructure of the GRH. The GRH has been unable to clear the backlog of patients due to constraints. It was also reported recently that about 160 school students were waiting for heart surgeries `due to delayed decision and insufficient funds'. Recently, the District Collector, B. Chandra Mohan, convened a meeting of health authorities where a decision to set up the foundation was taken. It will function under the leadership of the Collector and involve the medical fraternity. The Dean, James Pandian, speaking to The Hindu today said he would write to the Government asking for permission. From the contributions, equipment, personnel and other infrastructure would be organised not only for the cardio-thoracic but also in other departments. The number of surgeries per day would be increased, he said. ``There are no plans to shift patients to any other hospital.''
