Panic among recruits

By P.S. Suresh Kumar

Ramanathapuram Aug. 21. The district administration is in a piquant situation after the Regional Transport Officer, R. Radhakrishnan, today surrendered seven new junior assistant posts for lack of vacancies in the office and relieved the recently-appointed persons, including three women.

However, the district administration reposted three women junior assistants to the all-women taluk office here and the remaining four persons to various sections in the collectorate.

Meanwhile, the action taken by the RTO has created panic among recruits. "If other department heads start surrendering the posts how will we get new postings?

The action taken by the RTO is a violation of a government order and goes against the Chief Minister's intention," say a cross section of the newly-appointed junior assistants.

The district administration selected as many as 495 persons for junior assistant posts and appointed them in different department, when government employees went on strike last month.

The Government issued a circular that the newly-appointed junior assistant posts should continue till further orders.
