The incident occurred at Komana, near Ambalappuzha, today. The cremation of Sudha (34), Kandamcheril House, Komana, was delayed because of the failure of the undertaker of the SNDP Yogam Komana branch number 3715 to arrive at her house on time. Her relatives said the undertaker had been banned by the Yogam from conducting her funeral rites. They alleged that the family had been ostracised by the Yogam for the last four-and-a-half years. Later, the cremation was held with the help of an undertaker from another Hindu community. Meanwhile, reports said the area witnessed widespread protests against the alleged ostracism. The CPI(M) district secretary, M.A. Baby, visited the family. Mr. Baby said his party would help the family tide over the difficulties from social ostracism. The SNDP Yogam Komana branch secretary, meanwhile, denied imposition of any social ostracism. He attributed the failure of the undertaker to arrive on time to other factors.
