Mr. Rangasamy said all wings of the directorate would be housed in the building, constructed at a cost of Rs 7.77 crores. It was named as Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Birth Centenary Building' (as a highlight of celebration of birth centenary of the leader). The AICC leader, Sonia Gandhi, suggested the name when she visited here on August 14 last year. Mr. Rangasamy said the women and child hospital, proposed on a sprawling site at Ellaipillaichavady close to the Education Directorate, would be coming up soon. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, the Opposition leader in the Assembly, R.V. Janakiraman, the Chief Secretary, R. Padmanabhan, the Education Secretary, M. Sathiavathi, and the PWD secretary, C.S. Khairwal, were among those present.
