Gopal appears in Rajamani case

ERODE AUG. 25. The Sathyamangalam judicial magistrate, Devanathan, today ordered R.R. Gopal, editor, Nakkheeran, to appear before him on September 8 in connection with the murder of police informer, Rajamani. When the police produced Mr. Gopal before him, the magistrate posted the case for September 8.

According to police, Rajamani, hailing from Veerasamma Nallur in Tiruvannamalai district, was a close associate of the forest brigand, Veerappan, till 1998. He, however, suspected that Rajamani was passing on to the police information about his movements and so with the help of nine associates murdered Rajamani near Vazhukkuparai in the Sathyamangalam forest in 1998.

The Sathyamangalam police subsequently included Mr. Gopal as one of the accused, stating that it was in his presence the brigand and others killed Rajamani.
