'Excavation findings concocted'

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Aug. 25. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Secretary, Mohd Abdul Rahim Quraishi, today alleged that the findings of the ASI team on excavation at the Babri Masjid site were "concocted at the instance of the Vajpayee Government, particularly under pressure from the Union Ministers, Jagmohan and Murli Manohar Joshi".

In a statement, Mr. Quraishi, who is also the president of the All India Majlis Tameer-e-Millat, said the findings were totally inconsistent with the interim reports submitted earlier. The ASI team had conveniently overlooked the depth at which graves and human bones were found because it was proof of Muslim habitation that existed before the construction of the Babri Masjid. "The findings and conclusions are suspicious and do not inspire confidence," he said.

Similarly, the team had also ignored the polished lime and mortar floor found beneath the structure of the Babri Masjid, another proof of Muslim habitation and existence of Muslim structure.
