NGO takes custody of child vagrants

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug. 25. The upbringing of two children, Aradhana (5) and Pushpa (3), who were found begging at the East Fort bus stand by the police, has been entrusted to Janaseva Sisubhavan, a voluntary organisation based at Aluva.

The children had bee detained by the Fort police the other day after they were found begging.

The activists of the NGO, which works against child begging, had taken custody of the children from the police.

The children were later produced before the Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate, K. Vasudevan, who entrusted them to the care of the NGO, its president, Jose Maveli, said in a statement here.

The organisation has decided to concentrate its work in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts, where child begging is reportedly rampant, according to Mr. Maveli.
