Man arrested on charge of sandalwood theft

BANGALORE Aug. 25. The city police have arrested a youth on the charges of cutting sandalwood trees and breaking into houses at night.

According to police, Saleem Khan (21), alias Khan, of Bylu Narsapura in Hoskote taluk is accused in several cases of sandalwood theft and burglary. Saleem and his accomplice, who is reportedly absconding, broke into houses at night and stole ornaments and household articles.

Police said stolen articles, including gold and silver ornaments, had been seized in this connection. The Frazer Town Police have registered a case.

In another case, five persons were arrested by the city police on the charge of stealing cigarettes and liquor worth more than Rs. 2 lakh from the staff club of a cigarette company.

Police said it was the manager of the ITC Staff Club who noticed that the backdoor of the building had been broken and cigarettes and liquor stolen.

Police said the accused were Sanjaya Naik, Abdul Sharief, Khallel, Suresh, and Shakoor. Naik, Sharief, and Suresh were employees of the club. Khaleel and Shakoor were the owners of a provision store.

The city police, on Sunday, arrested a resident of Bilekahalli, Ismail Sharief, on the charge of cheating several finance companies by producing bogus documents.

Killed in mishap: Narayaswamy (50), a coolie, was killed on the spot when he was hit by a bus at the Kodigenahalli Gate on Bangalore-Bellary Road here on Monday morning. Narayanaswamy was walking to his place of work when the mishap occurred.

The Hebbal Traffic Police have registered a case.
