High alert following bomb hoax

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE Aug. 25. Following the car bomb blasts in Mumbai on Monday, police here have received two hoax calls that a bomb had been planted at the city railway station.

Police are keeping an intense vigil at the station. Two fire tenders have also been deployed. An entire battalion of the Karnataka State Reserve Police and plainclothes men have been posted to the station. Police were checking all trains and keeping a close watch on the passengers.

The Commissioner of Police, S. Mariswamy, said the hoax calls came between 6 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, G.B. Chebbi, is camping at the railway station. Police said reinforcements would be deployed if the situation warranted it.

Police also set up barricades at the entry and exit points of various "sensitive areas'' in the city, and were checking two-wheelers, cars, and other vehicles. Security at various vital installations in the city had also been strengthened, police said.
