Prisoner escapes from jail

HYDERABAD Aug. 25. A prisoner, Narayana Reddy (30), escaped from the Cherlapally open jail on Sunday. Four warders -- Kishore Babu, Mohan, Sri Ramulu and Ramulu -- were suspended by the jail authorities on Monday holding them responsible for the prisoner's escape.

A native of Mahbubnagar district, Narayana Reddy, was charged with murdering his wife in Kothapet under Saroornagar police station area and subsequently convicted. He was brought to Cherlapally jail on July 19 and kept in Sharada barracks.

Water board official held

A Manager (Engineering) of Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Kukatpally Housing Board section), R. Sitaram, was arrested on charge of receiving Rs. 18,000 bribe from a complainant on Monday.
