Police discuss security steps

CHENNAI AUG. 26. The steps to be taken by the police for Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations, and security measures to be adopted, in the wake of yesterday's blasts in Mumbai, were discussed at a "law and order meeting" of top police officers at the Secretariat here on Tuesday.

Presided over by the Chief Secretary, Lakshmi Pranesh, the meeting lasted an hour-and-a-half, according to official sources. The Home Secretary, Syed Munir Hoda; the Public Secretary, T. Pitchandi; the Director-General of Police, I.K. Govind; the Additional DGP, Law and Order, S.Venkatakrishnan, and the City Police Commissioner, K. Vijay Kumar, attended the meeting. The meeting was a "regular one" and had been fixed well in advance, the sources said.
