An official release today said the assistance would be given to the Public Works Department for covering select Government buildings. A district-level committee would choose buildings/campuses for providing the structures, taking into account the soil and terrain. It would be headed by the collector and would comprise officials of PWD wings, including building maintenance and groundwater. The work would be executed as per guidelines of the PWD and preference to be given to major campuses, which had a cluster of buildings with a lot of open space and pervious soil. Wherever water sources, such as river, reservoir, tank and percolation were available in the nearby area, rainwater collected would be channelised to the sources. The project would be completed within a time frame. The Government would monitor its progress, obtaining a weekly progress report from the districts, it said.
