Mahasabha seeks quota for forward caste poor

Jaipur Sept. 7. The Rajasthan Brahmin Mahasabha held a public meeting here today demanding reservation for the community. Leaders from both the ruling Congress and the Opposition BJP were seen on the dais along with the mahasabha leaders as the rally began with an invocation and chanting of slokas.

The Congress MLA and mahasabha president, Bhanwarlal Sharma, the State Education Minister, Bulaki Das Kalla, and senior State BJP leader, Ghanshyam Tiwari, were among the speakers.

A similar show of strength, by the Pratap Foundation, representing Rajputs, was held last month. Brahmins and Rajputs are in the forefront of the agitation seeking reservation for the poor among the forward castes in the State, where election is due this year-end. — UNI
