Letters to the Editor
Sir, The attack on the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu's convoy in Tirupati underscores the lurking danger in every corner of the country and emphasises the need for upgrading the security system and intelligence gathering. One way of curbing the fear psychosis is to underplay such incidents in the media. Perhaps the militant group responsible for the act wants to instil fear in the minds of the people. K. Parthasarathi, Chennai * * * Sir, Terror does not breed in a specific place nor does it hesitate to destroy sanctity. This is loud and clear from the attack on Mr. Naidu. If a person in the `Z plus' category is so vulnerable, then security measures need periodical revision. S. Raghavan, Delhi * * * Sir, The incident is an attack on the democratic and progressive ideals that Mr. Naidu cherishes. Those who have attempted such a dastardly act are no doubt ignorant of a man of Mr. Naidu's stature. Sridhar Sankranti, Manhattan, U.S. * * * Sir, It is time the People's War was effectively countered. Mr. Naidu is one of the few Chief Ministers to have worked really hard for the development of the State. S.A. Jayatheertha, Hyderabad * * * Sir, The PW's violent and gory ways have already made its ideology untenable. The attempt on the life of Mr. Naidu has further distanced it from the people. M. Somasekhar Prasad, Badvel, A.P. * * * Sir, The extremists seem to have a very wide network of operational capabilities. In such a situation, merely providing strong security cannot save the leaders. V. Balasubramanian, Madurai, T.N. * * * Sir, While it is true that Lord Venkateswara himself protected Mr. Naidu, we cannot deny that it was his bullet-proof car that saved his life. Mayank, Aligarh, U.P.
