Billiards & Snooker
Shroff, continuing his semifinal form which fetched a 5-0 win over Kamal Tulshan, opened up with a 61 break in the first frame, 52 and 47 in the third and fifth respectively to leave Shandilya far behind. The latter was trailing 0-3 within an hour into the final, forcing the organisers to give both contestants a break after the fourth to avoid a quick finish. The champion returned to the table in a hungrier mood and rifled a 47 to wrap up the match. Nari Contractor, ex-India Test captain, was the chief guest and Amir Merchant of Rexcello Castors, the guest of honour. The result (snooker final): Sarang Shroff beat Ashok Shandilya 4-0 (77(61)-17, 61-7, 95(52)-3, 84-40, 79(47)-12). On Monday, Devendra Joshi delivered when it mattered most to accomplish a 5-4 victory in the billiards title clash against young challenger Rupesh Shah. Monday's results: Billiards (final): Devendra Joshi bt Rupesh Shah 5-4 (150(67, 57)-23, 83-150(59), 151-50, 150(126)-3, 123-150(83), 55-150, 151(85)-49, 142(89)-151(80), 150(77)-135).
